We introduce our brand new monthly dose of art and culture. It’ll have everything from sketches to photographs to videos and a whole lot more. Watch this space :)

This month’s Sketch-of-View was contributed by Joel Lai; one of our very own budding young artist (who incidentally is studying to be an architect) and he sent us his #POV from Wellington, New Zealand.

Every city has it’s own history, and every history there is always a building that houses it. The Public Trust Building was originally opened in Wellington to manage the trust funds of recently deceased people. It is a great example of the Edwardian Baroque architecture still remaining in New Zealand, described as the best as most exuberant example of it’s kind. As one of the earliest steel-framed building in Wellington, there has been much debate about the structural integrity of the building being in an earthquake prone city. The cost of upgrading the building costs much more than what the building is worth due to tighter restrictions in earthquake regulations. Hence it’s existence is a questionable safety hazard albeit being an iconic building of Wellington City. Soon there might be the possibility that one day the only of remembering the building is through drawings and photographs. It is definitely one of many buildings that you should stand in front of and take a picture – if, and hopefully if, it still stands when you make a trip to Wellington, New Zealand.
